Student Achievements: Composition


Jennifer Bernard (DMA student) received the University Distinguished Graduate Fellowship, a 3-year fellowship given to outstanding incoming graduate students at UC beginning. She also received a University Research Council fellowship for summer 2004, to pursue a project with pianist Shiau-uen Ding.

Jennifer Bernard and Margaret Schedel tied for Best "Sound with Eyes Open" at the Indiana IDEAS Festival.

Ico Bukvic has programmed several applications for computer music used in the Linux community, including RTmix for realtime performance.

Shawn Okpebholo's wind ensemble work has been published, recorded commercially in Holland, and performed by a number of college and professional wind ensembles in the USA and Holland.

Danielle Post was chosen by competitive audition to be the composer-in-residence with the Kentucky Opera (Louisville). She will write a 30-minute, one-act opera for them.

Wonhee Shin was one of the winners of the 2004 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.

Margaret Schedel (DMA student) received the Presser Award for work in China this summer. She also won the SEAMUS 2004 Remix contest for her collaboration based on Alvin Lucier's I am Sitting in a Room (for details, e-mail <gem@schedel.net>).

Piotr Szewcyk was engaged as violinist for the Proteus Ensemble, which functioned as the Aspen Contemporary Players at Aspen.
