Before joining the University of Cincinnati, Brett Scott was Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the University of Rochester, where he directed the University of Rochester Chamber Singers and the Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs. As Assistant Professor of Conducting and Ensembles at the Eastman School of Music, he taught choral techniques at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 2004, after a national search, he was appointed Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, a position he held through the 2006-2007 season. During his tenure there he became known as an advocate for contemporary music, culminating in the commission and world premiere of the major choral/orchestral composition Passage Into Spirit by Randol Bass.
Originally from Canada, Brett served as Assistant Conductor to the 2000 National Youth Choir of Canada. As a conductor and a collaborative pianist he has received national broadcast in his home country. Since coming to the US he has lectured in various venues on contemporary Canadian choral music. His articles on Canadian composers have been published in Anacrusis, the American Choral Review, the Research Memorandum Series and most recently the Choral Journal.
Brett received his doctorate in choral conducting at the College Conservatory of Music, and is very pleased to be back in Cincinnati. |
