Biography: Professor Emeritus Carl H.P. Dahlgren began his career in marketing and advertising research with Benson & Benson, Inc., and Gallup & Robinson, Inc. While he was with the latter firm, he was asked by the Princeton Symphony Orchestra to manage the organization as a community service. Having received a music degree from the Westminster Choir College, he eventually took a career path which led, beginning in 1956, to senior positions at Columbia Artist Management, Inc. (Vice President and Partner) and Hurok Concerts, Inc. (Vice President and Director of Sales). His work involved the management of such prominent artists as George London, Nicoli Gedda, Rudolf Serkin, Eileen Farrell, Richard Tucker, Jascha Heifetz, Michael Rabin, Mildred Miller, Phyllis Curtin, Anna Moffo, Jamie Laredo, Andre Watts, Yo Yo Ma, and Erich Leinsdorf. He also toured such attractions as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, Sarah Caldwell's Boston Opera Company, and the French National Orchestra.

In 1970, Dahlgren founded Dahlgren Arts Management, Inc., a consulting firm for the arts, in Denver, Colorado. There he produced theater and popular musical shows as well as managing the Central City Opera House. He also continued as an associate of Hurok Concerts, overseeing the careers of conductors Paul Paray and Antonia Brico: the Pablo Casals Trio; Francisco Aybar; and Eugene List.

In 1978, Dahlgren was invited to become the first full-time Director of the graduate program in Arts Administration at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. During his 14 years at CCM, he established both the curricular objectives that the program has sustained and the dual degree with the MBA program. He also served as President of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra for 10 years; acting Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Arts Education; helped to establish and served as President of the Association of Arts Administration Educators (the field's professional service organization); and provided management consulting to a diverse group of not-for-profit arts institutions.

In 1996, Dahlgren moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he now resides along with his wife and continues to be active in the community.
