Roberta
Gary holds the degrees of B.M. in piano and M.M. in organ from the Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music. Her D.M.A. and Performer's Certificate in Organ
are from the Eastman School of Music.
Professor Gary studied
piano with Olga Conus and organ with Wayne Fisher, David Craighead, Arthur
Poister, Bernard Lagacé, William Porter, Harald Vogel and Edward
Parmentier.
As a soloist and workshop
clinician, Dr. Gary has presented numerous concerts and workshops in cities
including Dallas, Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston,
Pittsburgh and Montreal. She has been a member of the faculty of Capital
University in Ohio, and of numerous seminars, including the Choate Organ-Harpsichord
Seminars in Connecticut, Bach Week at Columbia College in South Carolina,
and Scranton Summer Organ Week. She was a featured recitalist for the 1976
and 1990 National Conventions of the American Guild of Organists. Her recording
of Liszt, Reubke, and Franck have been released on the Arsis label.
Dr. Gary has presented
lectures and master classes on Bach, Messiaen, French classic literature,
19th century romantic literature, early performance practice and organ
pedagogy. A recent interest has been movement and ease in playing, based
on the Alexander Technique.
She has been a member of
the CCM faculty since 1967.
