The Educational Landscape

Graduate Students are asked to consider the vast "Educational Landscape" in Contemporary Topics, as it is, which includes a multitude of factors (educational history, unions, parents, finances, etc.).  The students are to consider the entire educational landscape and put a creative spin on it through art, literature, dance, or any other creative medium that they desire.  Here is an example of student work in this area.

Educational Landscape Monopoly - Deluxe "Milieu" Edition

This monopoly board was one student's way of creating a game out of a complex part of the education landscape labeled the "milieu".  The milieu is multi-faceted, which includes issues such as technology, church vs. state, parental involvement, school finance, and more.  A quote from the student:

"To me, the way the parts of the milieu fit together was much like a game.  Maneuvering around the many heated issues was like a roll of the dice, where each occurrence was by chance, and those who could "monopolize" all the different issues and control them was the winner.  The game, however, was designed so that there could never be one true winner (due to the harshness of the "Community Chest" and "Educational Chance" cards) much as in the actual milieu.  There must be compromises in some areas, not total victory."

The zoomed-in picture represents a part of the milieu that includes child abuse, harassment, drug abuse, and learning disabilities, with a "technology" portion tucked in between.  The "Lunch Supervision" card represents the "jail" on the Monopoly* board.
