Music Technology and Supervision

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

Grant Proposal Project

The course "Technology for Music Teaching" introduces the music professional to a wide array of technology resources that are available to enhance both the productivity of the music teacher and the educational experience of their students.  One of the projects students of this class are asked to design is a Music Technology Grant Proposal.  The students are given a "fictional budget" and are asked to write a grant using the skills that they have previously gained through their coursework in the class.  Creating this proposal not only gives the learners valuable experience in writing grants for their own teaching situations, but also asks them to think creatively in designing a curriculum that takes advantage of several of the technologies that have been explored in previous classroom lessons.  Click the link below for an example of one of these grant projects.

Powerpoint

Another part of the technology journey that students undertake is an introduction to (or further study of) designing Powerpoint presentations.  Students utilize MS Powerpoint and learn how to manipulate not only the program, but also video files, audio files, pictures, and other media that make the program a valuable vehicle for presentations.  Below is an example of a student Powerpoint project that was used in presenting an assigned technology reading.

MUSIC SUPERVISION

SCRIBE Project

Students in this course learn various observation techniques to advance their knowledge of supervising music teachers at all levels.  One project in this course involves reviewing music student teacher teaching episodes (videotaped) and developing a computerized observation template for use with this "fictional" student.  The project allows for a simulated supervision opportunity for class members.  For the project, class members were requested to submit not only the computerized data they have captured during the observation process, but also their reflections about the experiences of using this observation system.  Click the link below for an example of one such project.
