Dorotea Vismara Hoffman
Viola, Accent09 Artistic Director
Violist Dorotea Vismara Hoffman has performed in Europe, South and
North America and in China as a chamber musician with a strong interest in
new music. Formerly violist with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra
under Riccardo Muti, Ms. Hoffman is currently a member of the Cincinnati
Chamber Orchestra. She studied with Piero Farulli, Lina Lama, Bruno Giuranna,
Augusto Vismara, Yuri Bashmet and Masao Kawasaki.
Dorotea Vismara Hoffman is the director of AccentX, a summer music program
at the University of Cincinnati, which she founded in 2002. She also
teaches violin, viola and chamber music at the CCM Preparatory Department,
where she is the director of the Accent Chamber Music Program, and
the chamber music coordinator. A former professor of viola at the
University of Kentucky in Lexington (1996-2005), and at the
Conservatorio di Musica "G.B.Martini" in Bologna, Italy (1984-96),
she is a frequent clinician, coach, jury member and teacher trainer
in conservatories, music schools and summer festivals.
Ms. Hoffman enjoys her summers in Croatia, where she is a faculty member
in the UpBeat Summer Music School since 2003. She has been involved
since 1980 in the making of new programs for the studio teaching of
musical instruments, and has developed the Accent Method, a highly
successful new studio approach to the violin and viola. Her projects
and materials have been published in Italy by Curci and by the journals
Laboratorio Musica, Bequadro and InVoce. Students of Ms. Hoffman have been
recipients of honors and prizes in regional, national and international
competitions. Former students are members of acclaimed string quartets,
chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras.
