Michael Ippolito
Composer
Michael Ippolito is a versatile composer and performer who has collaborated
with classical, folk and jazz musicians in performances ranging from experimental
improvisation to traditional Klezmer music. A graduate of the Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music, he studied composition with Joel Hoffman
and Michael Fiday and improvisation with Alan Bern. Currently, he is a
student at the Juilliard School, studying with John Corigliano.
As a composer, he has won recognition from the San Francisco Song Festival
and the American Art Song Competition, the New York Art Ensemble and the Ohio
Federation of Music Clubs. He has received numerous commissions by ensembles
such as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Miami University choruses
and the Jeffers/Carlson piano duo. He has presented his music in master
classes with Kaija Saariaho, Frederic Rzewski, Martin Bresnick and Zygmunt
Krauze, among others.
Also an active performer, he has frequently presented his own compositions
as well as the music of other young composers. As a pianist, he has performed
in recitals at the University of Cincinnati, the Oregon Bach Festival, the
University of Wisconsin-Madison and he has worked with Maurice Hinson and
Lisa Moore in master classes. As an accordionist, he has performed with
Klezmer bands as well as new music ensembles and improvisation groups.
