Rebecca Merblum
Violoncello

Rebecca Merblum, originally from Connecticut, began her cello studies at the Hartt School of Music. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she also served as a Preparatory Assistant. She went on to earn her Masters degree from the New England Conservatory. Her principal teachers have included Alan Harris, Marc Johnson, David Wells and Bonnie Hampton. In addition, she has performed in distinguished master classes for Steven Isserlis, Bernard Greenhouse and Joel Krosnick, among others. Rebecca has participated in festivals including the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, the Takacs Quartet Seminar, the Advanced Quartet Studies Program at the Aspen Music School and Festival, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, ENCORE School for Strings, the Audubon Quartet Seminar and the Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival. In the winter of 1999, she toured extensively with the VOX Piano Quartet throughout Switzerland, followed by the participation in the 2000 Yellow Barn Winter Tour. From 2001-2003, she served as cellist with the Niles String Quartet, Graduate Quartet in Residence at the University of Kentucky. The following year, as a founding member of the Azmari Quartet, she participated in the Graduate Quartet Residency at Northern Illinois University under the tutelage of the Vermeer Quartet. The Azmari Quartet currently holds the position of Corbett String Quartet-in-Residence at Northern Kentucky University. Rebecca also serves as the Co-Artistic Director of the Norse Festival at NKU. Additional summer residency positions for the Azmari Quartet have included the Austin Chamber Music Festival and the Gros Morne Chamber Music Festival in Newfoundland, Canada. Ms. Merblum's recent concert appearances included collaborations with John Aler, Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, Audrey Luna, Anthony McGill, Katherine Murdock, Awadagin Pratt, Michael Strauss, the Jupiter Quartet and principal members of the Cincinnati Symphony.
