Albert Laszlo
Albert Laszlo is associate professor of double bass at the
College-Conservatory at the University of Cincinnati. Born of
Hungarian parentage, he received his early training on the violin and
began his bass studies at the age of 12. He later studied cello
with George Neikrug and Stephen Kates. A scholarship student of
Homer Mensch at the Juilliard School, Mr. Laszlo received bachelor of
music and master of music degrees in double bass. He was a
fellowship student of Eugene Levinson at the Aspen Music School.
Mr. Laszlo has served as principal bass of both the National Chamber
Orchestra of New York and I Solisti of New York. In 1985 he
became the principal bass of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and has
appeared as a featured soloist with the CSO. Since joining the CCM
faculty in 1992 he has performed chamber music with members of the CCM
faculty both in Cincinnati and in Merkin Hall in New York City. Mr.
Laszlo joined the Aspen Music Festival and School Artist-Faculty in 1994
where he serves as co-principal bass of the Aspen Festival Orchestra and
performs chamber music with other members of the Aspen
artist-faculty. He appears frequently in recital with his wife,
pianist Patricia Wood.
