Clare Callahan

    Professor of Classical Guitar.

    • Education:   Epsom, England; Georgetown Visitation College; University of Dayton, Eastman School of Music; University of Cincinnati; Ohio State University (Fellow in Musicology).

    • Classical guitar study with Emile Bibobi (Wimbledon, England), Sophocles Papas (Washington, D.C., student and teaching assistant), Andrés Segovia (Spain). Scholarship winner to Musica en Compostela, Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Author of Jacques Gallot's Pièces de luth (1672): transcription/edition. Recitalist in England and U.S. on lute and guitar. Area Artist Series, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Guitar performances for NET and NPR.

    • Adjudicator for national and international competitions. Guest lecturer and teacher. MENC, OMEA, GFA, ASTA, and Suzuki Clinician. Executive Board of ASTA Guitar Division. Distinguished Service Award, ASTA Guitar Division. Member, Board of Directors, Guitar Foundation of America. Member, Solo Recitalists Panel, National Endowment for the Arts. Founder, CCM Classical Guitar Workshop in 1983.

    • Developed a Classical Guitar program which is integrated into the Conservatory curriculum with a full complement of courses in repertoire, pedagogy, ensemble and chamber music, as well as weekly performance classes, a graduate performance practicum, guest masterclasses and recitals, and the annual residency of Italian maestro Oscar Ghiglia who has been a Visiting Artist since 1974.
