Russell Burge
Russell Burge is a
native of Boulder, Colorado. He joined the faculty at the University
of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 1992 as a member of
Percussion Group Cincinnati. Professor Burge has performed extensively
with the Percussion Group throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
Recent performances include the Taipei International Percussion
Convention, the Ravinia Festival, Merkin Hall in New York City, the
Festival of Music in Portugal, the International Percussion Convention
in Columbus and the San Diego Ballet. He has recorded with the Group
for the Mode, Centaur, Einstein and Ars Moderno labels. The Group has
also made concerto appearances with more than twenty different symphony
orchestras since 1992. Mr. Burge received his Bachelor of Music degree
with distinction (Performer's Certificate) from the Eastman School of
Music and his master's degree from the University of Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music. He was formerly principal percussionist
with the West Virginia Symphony and performs regularly with the
Cincinnati Symphony and Opera. He has appeared as a soloist with the
West Virginia Symphony, Florida Coast Symphony and the CCM Philharmonia
Orchestra. Professor Burge teaches percussion, improvisation,
percussion ensemble and directs the College-Conservatory of Music
Steelband. He is an active jazz vibraphonist who has recorded for J
Curve Records, Human Records, Telarc and WVXU. His jazz compositions
are featured on the recording Reverse Wave, released
in 1995. Mr. Burge is currently Assistant Professor of Percussion at
the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
