Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble 2008-2009 Audition Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Preparatory Department, in cooperation with CCM’s Collegiate Wind Studies program, presents the only area wind ensemble for students in the greater Cincinnati area. CYWE is for musicians in grades nine though twelve who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, and percussion. CYWE is designed to be an enhancing and enriching experience for area high school students; it is not designed to replace students’ experience in their own high school bands. The mission of CYWE is to positively augment students’ band experience, to improve their skills as players and musicians, and to bring together students from diverse musical backgrounds to perform quality wind literature.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

The Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble rehearses each Sunday evening from 5:30 – 8:30 at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. This time is divided between large group rehearsals and small group sectionals. Attendance is expected at all rehearsals and concerts. Concert dates for 2007-2008 are Monday December 8, March 16, and June 8. In addition, CYWE has been invited to perform at a collaboration concert with the nationallyrenowned CCM Wind Symphony as part of their Spotlight on Excellence series on Wednesday evening, April 29. What is more, CYWE has been invited to perform at the Cincinnati Art Museum on Saturday, February 14 as part of the Fine Arts Funding series.

The fee for this ensemble is $275, plus a $20 registration fee, which is required for all Preparatory Department students. Payments may be split into two payments. However, a $10 fee is required for the two-payment option. For further information regarding this option, please reference the CCM Prep program booklet for additional information. Private lessons are strongly recommended for CYWE members, though not required. CYWE members receive a 20% discount for private lessons taken through the CCM Preparatory Department.
