Acting For The Stage
Acting for the Stage
New students should enroll by age, unless audition is required. All acting classes explore the basic techniques of becoming an actor: improvisation, character development, and scene work.
- Imagination Express
Ages 5–7
Cost: $190 Saturday, 10am Lauren Carr, Instructor
The purpose of this first acting experience is to stretch the imagination and creativity in performance. This class is designed to be fun and exciting for each child, giving them a chance to expand on stories, experiences and characters, while implementing the fundamentals of acting.
- Introduction to Acting
Ages 8–10 Cost: $190 Saturday, 9am or 11am Lauren Carr, Instructor
The purpose of this class is to stretch the imagination and creativity in performance. This class is designed to be fun and exciting for each child, giving them a chance to expand on stories, experiences, and characters, while implementing the fundamentals of acting.
- Acting One
Ages 11–14 Cost: $190 Saturday, 9am Acting I is designed to help the young student begin the transition in thinking and technique from the games-oriented pretend based instruction of earlier classes to the foundation techniques of true acting. This is accomplished through instruction in correct improvisation technique from its most basic form to the more constructed rule-based form used to create improvised scenes.
- High School Acting
Cost: $190 Saturday, 11am This class for different levels of high school students includes a diversity of improvisational, physical and text based exercises using neutral dialogue and non-dramatic text as a starting point.
- Advanced Acting I
Ages 11 and up (audition required) Cost: $190 Saturday, 11am Advanced Acting classes are designed to continue developing the skills learned in earlier acting classes while introducing new higher level concepts. This is accomplished by using advanced improvisation techniques to understand character interaction in scenes. Concepts such as character interaction, focus, point of view, passing focus, scene dynamics, and energy will be introduced and explored throughout the year as we move into scripted scenes.
- Advanced Acting II
Ages 11 and up (audition required) Cost: $190 Saturday, 10am, 12pm (See above description for Advanced Acting One)
- Scene Study: High School previous acting exp. required
Cost: $225 Saturday, 3–4:30pm Bob Allen, Instructor
Scene Study is designed to allow students to continue developing their acting skills individually while working in a scene group setting. The students in this class have a wide range of skill levels which allows them in this “learn by doing” situations, to learn not only from the instructor but also from each other. The students will work with scenes from classical and contemporary works. Memorization is required. Concepts such as scene structure, scene dynamics, character interaction, focus, scene arc, whose scene is it and why will be studied throughout the year as we work with scripted scenes.
- Stage Combat: Acting the Stage Fight
Ages 14–Adult Cost: $190 Saturday, 10am
Founded upon the safety techniques developed by the Society of American Fight Directors, Acting the Stage Fight teaches students how to become safe Actor/Combatants capable of creating the illusion of violence on stage as often required in classical and contemporary theater. In the beginning class, students work on the ability to create the illusion of violence while remaining completely safe. The classes begin with hand to hand techniques and advance to weapon introduction.
- Advanced Stage Combat
Cost: $190 Saturday, 12pm In the advanced class, the focus is on found objects and swords.
