Adult Classes

You’re never too old to learn something new, or brush up on your artistic hobbies! You may wish to register for private lessons. Our music registrar will work with you to ensure the most appropriate instructor to work with you. We also have a variety of group classes that may be of interest:
Seniors may wish to participate in the Clavinova Connection classes held held throughout Cincinnati.


DANCE


Adult Ballet

The ballet division offers classes for adults who may wish to take the class for exercise or for continuing and refining their ability. The Intermediate class requires an audition; some advanced students also participate in the upper levels and pointe classes. In addition, an adult ballet performance group will meet weekly for those dancers who wish to perform in upcoming concerts.

Beginning Adult Ballet
Day: Saturdays
Time: 12:00-1:00pm
Cost: $250 per semester

Intermediate Adult Ballet
Time:11:30-1:00pm and 6-7:30pm
Cost: $350 for 2 classes a week
*Intermediate students may also wish to purchase a punch card for $65 for five classes.

Adult Ballet Performance Group
Day: Wednesdays
Time: 8-9pm
Cost: $150 per semester

Adult Tap
Cost: $150 for 15 weeks
Day: Saturdays
Instructors: Dee Anne Bryll, Amy Dimmerling
Beginning: 12:00-1:00pm
Intermediate: 10:00-11:00am

Tap Classes are offered every Saturday during the academic year. The beginning class requires no previous experience. The Intermediate class is suggested for returning students or those students who have taken classes in the past. For more information, visit our Theatre Arts page.


Acting

Private lessons in acting can be arranged for adults. The cost is $48 per hour. Please contact the office for further information.





MUSIC


Music Lessons

Please visit our Music page to learn more about private lessons in all instruments and voice. Our faculty are well trained to work with adults of varying levels. Adult music students are encouraged to perform on adult recitals and pair together for chamber music opportunities. Your private instructor can assist you with this.




Music Theory
Day: Saturdays, 1, 2 or 3pm
Instructor: Dr. Igor Plitsyn

A Music Theory Placement Test is available, both in the office and on our website to assess your ability and enable you to be placed in the appropriate class. There are three levels of music theory or you may wish to take private lessons. Composition lessons are also available.


Adult Voice Class
Cost: $125 per semester; $100 for students who study private voice at the CCM Preparatory Department
Instructors: Jill Dew
Fall: Sept. 29-Dec. 8, 2009
Spring: Feb. 2 – April 13, 2010
Time: Tuesdays, 7–8pm

This is a 10 week course for adults to explore efficient vocal technique. It will include vocal mechanics, care and maintenance of the voice, voice type characteristics, and an assessment of the student’s voice. It is intended for non-professional singers who want to learn about standard vocal techniques and tools. The student will be assigned at least one song to prepare and perform in class; therefore, some ability to read music is expected. The class will be handled in the manner of a master class, where all have the opportunity to sing and learn from each other.


Keyboard Skills and Musicianship Class
Cost: $200 per semester, $150 for students enrolled in private music lessons.

A new group class program in keyboard musicianship skills that introduces the piano and keyboard skills. Adults may choose the intermediate class.


Intermediate (ages 12 through adult):

3pm Saturdays The goal is to offer supplemental keyboard skills for students of other musical instruments or voice and is ideal for those who need rudimentary keyboard skills for acceptance into a college music program. Students will study scales, chords, arpeggios, etudes, and other foundational materials.


Adult Recitals
Date: November 14, 2009 and May 8, 2010
Time: 12:15pm
Where: 3250 MEH
Adult recitals encourage and support adults in the music program. To participate, please check with your private instructor. The May 4th recital is part of the CCM Prep Merit Festival. Performers will receive valuable written evaluations by CCM Prep faculty members.
