Audition Format

Auditions take place in Corbett Auditorium and include three parts.

  1. Prepared Piece Perform 1 to 2 minutes of a prepared selection (memorization preferred) that demonstrates your musicianship. This may be an art song, aria, or folk song/hymn. A faculty accompanist is provided, and you are also welcome to bring your own. Bring a copy of your music with tempi and any cuts clearly marked.
  2. Sight Reading You will sight sing a short example. Take one minute to look it over before singing. Solfege, numbers, or a single vowel are all acceptable. Keep a steady tempo and avoid stopping once you begin.
  3. Tonal Memory You will hear a series of pitches on the piano and sing them back immediately after the first hearing. There will be several examples.
